Character Design

I spent a lot of the first part of this term doing character designs for the class Character Design and Storyboarding for Animation with Ray Goto, and just finally got some assignments back and scanned in. My two favorites assignments for the class so far were to take the main cast of a TV show and turn them into animate-able characters (I chose True Blood) and then to take four…

All Saints Day

I forgot to mention this right away, but the graphic novel All Saints Day came out from Oni Press a week ago! The artist is my professor, Dove McHargue, and I got a credit for doing art assists and post production. I haven’t actually read the story yet, but the art is fantastic and the hardcover edition is a really beautiful book. Check it out!

Nebraskon Preview

My mom and I have both been preparing for Nebraskon on November 5-7th this year. As always our table, with the company name HappyCat, will feature my mom’s amazing sewn creations, my artwork and small merchandise like buttons and phone charms, and our collaborative jewelry. Posted below is one of my new 1.25″ button designs for the 2011 convention season. Exciting!

Shameless

So, Rich Ellis and I have been watching Gurren Lagann. That show is wildly and hilariously shameless. You’ve just got to admire the sheer amount of double entendres and suggestive imagery they manage to fit into 25 minute episodes. My natural reaction to this show was to do fanart of the most ridiculous cheesecake character EVER, Yoko. And with this, I’ve officially been drawing too many girls. Given, everybody likes…

Guards! Guards!

More of my colors over beautiful linework by Rich Ellis. We’re both big fans of the City Watch-centric books in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, and this is a scene from the book Guards! Guards! In this scene, young Carrot (the redhead) is calculating the odds that Sergeant Colon (center) can shoot down the dragon that is rampaging through Ankh-Morpork with his lucky arrow, as it will only work if the…

Don Bluth and Avatar

A couple years back, the much beloved animator Don Bluth donated most all of his studio’s work to SCAD, where it is available in our library’s Special Collections. I can not exaggerate how cool this is… All the original character designs, layouts, background paintings, production cels, everything. I went to visit today for the third time, and I took a couple pictures from the art of Secret of NIMH and…

Wonder Woman

Quick sketch of Wonder Woman! I was drawing it while watching Barbarella last night, which possibly accounts for the voluminous hair.

Everything is Awesome

After a bit of a break, I am back to posting! I unfortunately don’t have a lot of work I can show, because lately I’ve been doing some coloring for Dark Horse. I will, of course, update again when the book comes out and you all can see for yourselves! Life has been eventful. I moved back to Savannah for my last year of college at SCAD. Portland was absolutely…

Periscope

I’m about halfway through my internship with Periscope Studio and things are going swimmingly! Very busy, though, and I haven’t been able to work on my own projects quite as much as I’d like. I took some time out the other day to draw Branwynn from Raven’s Gambit as a birthday present for my friend Rich Ellis, check it out! There are also some new pages in the Comics gallery…

QC Anime-zing

Of course, just when something fun like an anime convention gets started in my hometown, I’m halfway across the country. Fortunately, my work will still be present at the new QC Anime-zing (organized, consequently, by a friend of mine)! My mom, with her fledgling company HappyCat, and my friends will be commanding a table in the Artist Alley, selling wonderful sewn goods as well as my artwork. I also created…
